You Have To Start Somewhere
I've had to teach myself things before, in fact, a good majority of my life has been devoted to teaching myself (or researching how-to-do-the-thing) and I have to say it has not been something I am particularly great at.
A few examples of some things I've tried to learn on my own:
- How to replace headlights in a car.
- How to speak German.
- How to code in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- How to suture a wound.
- How to replace an electric counter-top stove.
- How to properly set a garage door to a built-in-to-car garage door remote.
- How to write a great blog.
It's honestly a bit overwhelming at first. You don't have the support you'd normally have, you don't have the partner you can bounce ideas off of, and lets not get started on what you do when you have questions that the internet can't answer.
So, naturally, I can only say this about learning on my own: I LOVE IT!
Now it isn't because I get some sick sense of joy out of my own discomfort, no, rather just the opposite. I feel so much pride when I figure something out on my own. Imagine that feeling you get when you put together a puzzle and ALL THE PIECES FIT! No leftovers, no tight fits, no missing spots, just a complete picture that you can enjoy as your "job well done".
While most of my adventures into self-improvement have not gone very well, even the smallest of victories send sparks flying in my heart.
As a blog, this will probably be extremely boring as it boils down to being one-third a public journal full of my crazy ramblings, one-third a journal of my triumphs in the world of self-improvement, and one-third a celebration of all things geek.
With that, I'd like to thank you and welcome you to the world of Full Metal Geek.
